The pretty town of Tenterden is located a short drive from Ashford, at the edge of the Weald. For a land locked town, it is one of the historic Cinque Ports, as in history the river Rother was a lot wider, and closer to the sea.

The town boasts a tree lined high street, which has a colourful combination of small shops, tea rooms, public houses, restaurants and one or two high street names. Tenterden also boasts its very own steam railway, the Kent and East Sussex Railway is based at the town and is a popular tourist attraction.

The town centre is mainly based in period style properties, with a large amount of listed buildings in the town, with new developments on the outskirts.

Tenterden has no direct rail route to London, however the high speed services from Ashford are but a short drive from the town, and the road network, whilst consisting of single carriageway A roads, is sufficient for the town and its surroundings.
