With winding streets, and an array of independent shops, it is a place steeped in history. Charles Dickens, who was a regular visitor to the town, wrote David Copperfield whilst staying at Bleak House. The Dickens connection continues to this day, with the annual Dickens Festival taking place in the town. Broadstairs is also home to the world famous Folk Week. This lively event features musicians from across the globe come to the town to perform in the town centre.

Broadstairs has road and rail links to London, with the high speed service making the town a little under 1 ½ hours from St Pancras station, and the A299 Thanet Way is a 10 minute drive from the town. Just outside the town is located the Westwood Cross shopping centre. This modern complex boasts department stores such as Debenhams, as well as large a Marks and Spencer's and Next. There is also a Tesco Extra and large Sainsbury's and Asda's located nearby.

The majority of the town features classic buildings, with very few new builds in the centre. Outside the villages of St. Peters has some new developments, however Broadstairs is mainly a historic and charming seaside town.
